The city of Grimes is one of the fastest growing communities in the Des Moines Metropolitan area which has had a tremendous impact on growth in its youth sports programs. 

FOX was the civil engineer of choice in the design of the Grimes Sports Complex in 2003 and was retained once again for design and construction of this new 27-acre park. Construction began fall of 2011.  

The professional engineers and certified floodplain manager at FOX:

• Communicated with city staff and Park Board members to understand and determine exactly what the city needed and wanted for a new sports complex. 

• Analyzed the proposed sports park site to determine the feasibility and usefulness of the subject property and the potential environmental impacts.

• Designed a site that minimized impacts to wetlands on site, but also found a means of wetland mitigation off-site through use of a wetland bank.

• Developed a useful youth sports facility within an odd-shaped property that had known wetland issues.

The designed site is currently under construction and will be completed in the summer of 2012. The North Grimes Recreation Park will provide the maximum utilization of this city-owned property while providing valuable park space for the benefit of all of Grimes citizens.
