EPA proposes revisions
to the Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Rule
December 2005
EPA has proposed two separate
amendments to the Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure
(SPCC) Rule. The first amendment streamlines the regulatory
requirements for qualified facilities, qualified oil-filled
operational equipment, motive power, and airport mobile
refuelers. The second proposes extensions to the compliance
dates for all facilities regulated under the SPCC rules.

Glidden City Officials
Tour Water Treatment Plant
December 2005
The December 12, 2005, regular
Glidden City Council meeting was preceded by a tour of the
recently completed renovation of the water treatment plant. The
Mayor, City Council, City Administrative Staff and the media
were guided through the treatment plant by representatives of
FOX Engineering, the design consultant, and PeopleService, the
contract operator of the plant. During the formal meeting, the
Mayor and members of the Council expressed their thanks to the
contractor, engineer, and operator for successful completion of
the project within the budget.

Hobson presents paper on innovative grit removal process at the WEFTEC in Washington, D.C.
November 2005
The Council Bluffs Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) has been operating at its existing location since the mid 1970's to treat the
City of Council Bluff's sanitary wastewater. This project included the evaluation, replacement, and upgrade of preliminary treatment facilities that were in need of
extensive improvements due to significant structural and equipment deterioration from age and corrosion. In addition, the existing grit facilities were in need of
upgrade to provide more efficient grit removal and reduce operational problems.

Hobson is Honored by American Academy of Environmental Engineers
November 2005
Keith L. Hobson, P.E. and principal with FOX Engineering Associates, Inc. in Ames, Iowa has been granted certification in the
specialty of Water Supply and Wastewater and inducted into the American Academy of Environmental Engineers (AAEE). The Academy's Board of Trustees has conferred the
distinction of Board Certified Environmental Engineer (BCEE).

The Meadows at
Monroe
October 2005
The City of Monroe will soon have
a new residential development – “The Meadows at Monroe.” Located
on the southwest side of town near the city cemetery, the
property is zoned residential and consists of 32 acres. The
Planning and Zoning Commission and the City Council recently
approved the preliminary plat for this development.

Quality Revisions

The Iowa Department of Natural
Resources has proposed changes to the Water Quality Standards (WQS)
of Iowa that will cost a number of Iowa cities that discharge to
small streams a lot of money with little, if any, benefit to the
streams.

Conveys Awards...

Dave Fox of FOX Engineering
Associates, Inc. in Ames, Iowa is a recipient of the Kenneth J.
Miller Founders' Award for Leadership. Mr. Fox received the
award for leadership in dramatically increasing the visibility
of Water for People among the people of Iowa, including
formation of a joint committee with the Iowa Water Pollution
Control Association, and for boosting the level of contributions
tenfold.

Adopt-A-Highway:
Boone, Iowa
Summer 2005
In 2004, the Keep Boone County
Beautiful Organization started sponsorship of Adopt-A-Highway
program. Twice a year on a 2 plus mile stretch of County Road
R23 south of Boone FOX Engineering employees and personnel from
the Boone County Sanitary Landfill don orange vests to clean the
side of the road and ditches.

Iowa Children's
Water Festival - 2005
Summer 2005
In 1996, the Des Moines Water
Works began the Iowa Children's Water Festival and soon after,
the Iowa Association of Water Agencies (IAWA) was chosen as the
permanent home for the Water Festival. The free, one-day event
is in May each year and located on the campus of Des Moines Area
Community College in Ankeny, Iowa. The program is led by
volunteers (FOX engineering employees among them) and many other
support committees.

“Pie in the Eye”
Fundraiser Boone County Sanitary Landfill - Boone, Iowa
Summer 2005
When one of their long time
employees passed away from leukemia in 2004 Scott Smith, Boone
County SLF Administrator, came up with the idea of throwing pies
to raise money for the American Cancer Society-Relay for Life.
He was the willing recipient and as you can see by the pictures
some of our employees had a little fun with it, too. You're a
good sport Scott!

Announce Appointments To Iowa Great Places Board
May 4th, 2005
Governor Tom Vilsack and Lt.
Governor Sally Pederson made appointments today to the first
Iowa Great Places Board. Executive Order 39, which was signed by
the Governor January 11, 2005, created the Board within the
Department of Cultural Affairs.

Council Bluffs
Wastewater Treatment Plant Project Finished
April 17th, 2005
FOX and the city have teamed up on
a variety of projects over the past eight years. The most recent
effort, which included the planning and design of improved
preliminary treatment screening and grit removal facilities at
the Council Bluffs Wastewater Treatment Plant, has earned the
firm an Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council
of Engineering Companies of Iowa.
