2007 Dragoon River Romp Plans Underway
August 2007
Plans for the 2007 Dragoon River Romp are coming together
quickly. Committees involved in the River
Romp have been meeting since January of this year to make
sure that the event has another successful year.
The date has been set for Saturday, September 22nd.

Fox Engineering Associates, Inc. of Ames, Iowa, is pleased to
announce the addition of Mr. Jerry A. Selbher to the firm.
July 2007
Mr.Selbher holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering, as well as a
B.S. in Biology. Both degrees, in addition to a Teaching
Certification Program, were completed at Iowa State
University.

Ms. Gleason holds a B.A. in Environmental Sciences, in
addition to a Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering.
Both degrees were conferred at the University of Virginia,
Charlottesville.

2007 Iowa Children's Water Festival
May 2007
For the 10th year in a row, FOX Engineering employees participated
in the Iowa Children’s Water Festival on May 10, 2007 at the Ankeny
Des Moines Area Community College campus. Keith Hobson, Shalin Kowalke,
Matt Kasper, Lisa Packer, Carla Schumacher, Laurie Twitchell, and Steve
Van Dyke spent the day volunteering as classroom presenters, photographers,
auditorium support, class guides, and as the volunteer coordinator.

FOX Employee Begins Term as Chairperson of Iowa Geographic Information Council
July 2007
Anne Packard, GIS Coordinator for FOX Engineering, has begun her
one-year term as Chairperson of the Iowa Geographic Information
Council (IGIC). IGIC is a group of Geographic Information System
(GIS) professionals from the State of Iowa with an interest in
promoting GIS use and collaboration in Iowa.

City of Charles
City and FOX Engineering Team with VeraSun to Provide Water to
New Ethanol Plant
April 2007
FOX Engineering worked with VeraSun and the
City of Charles City to design a four-mile long, 18-inch
diameter water transmission main and a 1.5 million gallon
per day (mgd) pumping station to deliver water to the new
VeraSun Ethanol Plant located west of Charles City. The
project was divided into two contracts to be let separately
for the transmission main and pump station. Each Contract
had a compressed time frame to meet the needs of the new
VeraSun facility.

Payne Retires
after Long Career with City of Muscatine
April 2007
Lavene Payne, Solid Waste Director for the City of Muscatine, retired on March 30, 2007, having served the city for 29 years. For him, these are interesting times. As he leaves his long-time post, he is looking forward to retirement. It will be filled with part-time work managing the pro shop at the golf course, gardening, and running with friends. He intends to play some golf, too.

Thirty Seventh Annual Food Processing Environmental Conference
March 2007
In March Steve Troyer, PE,from FOX
Engineering exhibited and presented a poster at the 37th
Annual Food Processing Conference in St. Pete Beach,
Florida. His copresenter was Eric LaSalle of Smithfield
Foods, Inc., Smithfield, Virginia. The engineers at FOX have
worked with Mr. LaSalle over the past eight years on a
variety of industrial wastewater treatment projects.

Attends HAE Water Distribution Design and Modeling Seminar
March 2007
Matt Kasper recently attended a
week-long training seminar to upgrade his water distribution
modeling skills. He was immersed in the most current water
distribution modeling software offered by Bentley Systems
who distribute WaterCAD® and Hammer® among others. The
setting was a small group (9 people) which facilitated
instructor-to-student and student-to-student interaction.

Completes Design of Iowa's First Membrane Bioreactor
March 2007
FOX Engineering recently
completed the design of Iowa's first membrane bioreactor (MBR)
wastewater treatment facility for the City of North Liberty,
Iowa. An MBR is an advanced wastewater treatment process
that utilizes membrane filtration to produce a high quality
effluent.

FOX Teams With Clear
Lake Sanitary District and Alliant Energy
February 2007
FOX teamed with the Clear Lake
Sanitary District and Alliant Energy on an effluent-reuse
project to provide tertiary wastewater effluent for
additional cooling water supply for the new Mason City power
plant. Project challenges included providing a
continuous cooling water source from an intermittent
discharge Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) facility and
including operating flexibility and provisions to receive
and discharge cooling water return. Challenges also
included providing an on-line monitoring system and
operating scheme for the new facility.

Operation Change
to Save Electrical Cost
Newton, Iowa Wastewater Plant
January 2007
In 2004, the City of Newton
received a new wastewater plant operating permit that
contained revised limits for effluent ammonia. Plant
Superintendent Bob Main reviewed recent plant operating data
and thought that the trickling filter/activated sludge plant
could meet the new permit limits without operating the
activated sludge portion of the plant.
